Award Search Tool Comparison: Coverage, Features, and Limits

Award-search tools solve different parts of the same trip-planning problem. This matrix compares documented coverage, search behavior, date flexibility, alerts, and access so you can match a tool to the work you need to do.

The information comes primarily from official product pages, pricing pages, FAQs, and documentation. Award availability and prices can change quickly, so confirm the itinerary with the loyalty program before transferring points or booking.

Data verified: September 30, 2026

Pricing, features, coverage, and plan limits change frequently. Verify current terms with the provider before making a booking or transferring points.

How we compare award search tools

We separate live queries from stored discovery data, and we record how far into the future a tool can search independently from how many dates it can evaluate at once. Program coverage, search-entry limits, and alerts are also treated as separate claims. See the full methodology summary for verification and uncertainty rules.

Quick definitions

Live SearchA query the provider says requests or refreshes availability for the selected route, date, and program at search time.
Cached / Stored DataAvailability collected before the current query and retained for discovery, calendars, route pages, or alerts.
Search HorizonThe furthest future departure date the search product can query or browse.
Flexible Date WindowThe number or span of departure dates evaluated together in one search query.
Discovery HorizonThe furthest future departure represented on a stored discovery, deals, map, or calendar surface.
Multi-airport SearchOne query accepting more than one explicit origin or destination airport.
Region SearchA search accepting a geographic group such as a country, sub-region, continent, or “Anywhere.”
AlertSaved user criteria that trigger a notification when matching availability or a defined change is detected.

Tool-by-tool notes

PointsYeah

PointsYeah documents Live Search alongside Daydream Explorer, a stored discovery surface for broader location ideas. Free and Premium Live Search windows are documented as up to four and eight days. Its 365-day Explorer range is recorded as discovery rather than Live Search horizon. Confirm any promising Explorer result in Live Search and then with the booking program.

seats.aero

seats.aero combines stored route coverage with live search and documents 60-day free and one-year Pro horizons. Multi-airport, metro, and region codes work in Search, while continuous alerts and several advanced controls are Pro. Stored results may refresh, but availability should still be confirmed with the program.

point.me

point.me separates live Flight Search from Explore’s recently found fares. Two official pages conflicted when checked: one said free searches were available up to 60 days, while another said full live award search requires a paid plan. Confirm current free access directly with point.me. Route-specific alerts are documented for paid plans.

Roame

Roame documents Live Search and the stored SkyView discovery workflow separately. Official sources also disagreed on program count: the subscription page stated up to 25 programs, while the About page stated 28. This matrix does not choose between those claims. Multi-region search is listed with paid plans, while main-search multiple-airport support remains unverified.

AwardTool

AwardTool distinguishes Real-Time Search, stored Panorama and route calendars, and Deals. Its documented 36-entry Pro limit is an entry count, not a 36-day window or horizon. Account limits vary, and stored results should be refreshed and confirmed before transfer or booking.

AwardFares

AwardFares documents cached preview access in Basic, hourly availability in Gold, and real-time availability in Diamond. It supports continent, country, and award-zone searches. A query is limited to six airports or city areas in total. Flex and Live Alerts are paid features; numeric plan prices were not reliably exposed in the reviewed text.

Pointhound

Pointhound separates Standard Search from Top Deals discovery. Top Deals covers up to six origins and six destinations and can span a full year; that discovery range is not treated as the Standard Search window. Flight Alerts are Premium. Basic deal emails are an editorial digest, not an equivalent user-defined alert.

How to choose an award search tool by job

I know the exact route and date

Look first at Search model, then check whether the result is live or stored and whether booking verification is required.

I am flexible by several days

Compare the Free date window and Paid date window. Do not substitute a one-year horizon for the number of dates searched together.

I am flexible by destination

Use Region search availability and distinguish live region queries from stored discovery maps and calendars.

I want alerts

Check Alerts availability, then confirm whether alerts are one-off or continuous and which channels and plans apply.

I need a long search horizon

Compare free and paid search horizons. Check discovery horizons separately when you are browsing stored opportunities.

I want to compare multiple programs

Look at the advertised program count and whether a current public list exists. Counts do not guarantee identical route or partner coverage.

Methodology

The MVP includes seven multi-program flight-award search, discovery, or monitoring tools with public official documentation. Official product pages, pricing, FAQs, help centers, legal pages, and announcements are used in that order of preference. Secondary comparisons are not factual sources for mutable fields.

Each value is assigned only when the official statement matches the field definition. Live search, stored discovery, horizons, date windows, and entry limits remain separate. Not verified means a value was not confirmed sufficiently; Not publicly documented means reviewed official materials did not explain it precisely; Official sources conflict preserves incompatible official claims. Quick checks are planned monthly, full audits quarterly, and major provider changes trigger immediate review.

Provider terminology is recorded but not independently benchmarked. Program counts do not prove equal route coverage, and a negative value requires affirmative evidence rather than absence of documentation.
